The OC Shopping Challenge!

Linda and I took part in the recent Orchard Central Shopping Challenge and we emerged Champion!

Linda saw the ad on 8 days and called me up, asking if I’d like to join this contest with her so we did! We joined pretty late, on the day when they were closing the application itself, because we couldn’t find time to go OC to shop till May 22. Nevertheless, we were still fortunate enough to be picked as one of the 12 teams for the contest!

On the day itself! Even though we were supposed to be there by 4pm only, I met Linda as early as 1.30pm! Poor Linda had a bad tummy that morning as she ate expired Nutella, but thank goodness she was well enough to still turn up!

She had to follow me around doing some work first (going to the post office, engraving stuff etc.) before finally heading to OC.

We were OC 05 and if you were there and voted for us, you might have won $300 OC vouchers!

Briefing finally started only at 4.40pm, even though we were asked to be there at 4pm, so it was a pretty long and tiring wait.

Fans of Pierre, Tay Ping Hui, Joanne Peh and Rebecca Lim had come super early to support them.

And finally it started! Even though it was supposed to start at 5pm, it didn’t start till 5.25pm. The judges were invited in and both of them looking really gorgeous and tall. (I believe Rebecca wore heels that were at least 5-6 inches!)

So we were given 50 min to spend our 400 OC vouchers on at least 1 Apparel, 1 footwear, 1 Accessory and 1 Bag. Time was really short and the shops we could go to were pretty limited, for e.g. there were only 2 shoe shops to choose from and the shoes are pretty much the same. I couldn’t even find red stilettos!

The theme of the challenge was “Yeah, it’s Friday” and I (the stylist) was supposed to style Linda (the model) using what we purchased with the voucher, for a look that she can wear on a Friday to work and transform it to something she can go out (and party with) after work! We were quite pleased that we managed to put everything together in 50min and even got Linda to put on some makeup at Guardian! :p

(I’m saying this as some groups only managed to buy the dress and a cardigan and they haven’t gotten their shoes/bags/accessories!)

We went up pair by pair to show off our looks to the judges and style advisors, where Joanne Peh and Tay Ping Hui (the style advisors, not judge) gave us some constructive criticism to work on. We were then given another 30min to buy anything else we needed, so i changed Linda’s shoes and got her a pretty Green Flower which you can use as both a pin or hair clip!

Transformed Night look. In case you are wondering, the models were supposed to go up in groups of 3 to display their looks, so it’s OC 04 and OC 06 on both sides of Linda!

After looking at all 12 teams, the judges made up their mind and announced the winner.. which you should know by now that they chose us!

And the winning team is…. (*drum rolls*) Linda Sim and Valerie Tang!

There wasn’t second or third, there was only first, and it was us! We were shocked and hurried up on stage to collect our winning prize (more vouchers)! Took several pics with the judges (you shld see it in 8 days Next Week) and hurried off the stage with too many things in our mind, calling our friends and family to inform them – yes NO ONE came down to support us. Haha.

We came to the contest to have fun and mentally prep ourselves that we might not win (because I haven’t won much of any contests before) and that’s what we did! God listened to our prayers and he really blessed us with a really smooth contest and favor in the judges eyes! Pierre even said he gave us 100 points!
